If San Diego prices are too high for you or you just want something newer, then consider the 55+ communities in Riverside County. Most of them are relatively new, or still under construction, since that is where land is available. You can find larger homes all on one level here, and the prices are about $100K less than San Diego County. The climate is not as temperate as San Diego's in these inland communities. You can expect hotter summer days, and colder winter nights.
