Ocean Hills Country Club boasts a 27,000 square foot recreation center houses a billiard parlor, arts & crafts studio, sewing room, a Wall Street club room, photo printing lab, Nautilus workout room, woodworking shop, and more.
The clubhouse patio, aka “Palm Court”, has just seen a major renovation with new paving, cafe lights and a fire feature. It looks to be quite the happening place!
The bright concourse branches off to the various meeting rooms and rec areas.
The large concert hall (the largest I’ve seen anywhere) hosts special events, dances, performances, and holiday celebrations.
Whatever your interest, there’s a beautiful place to pursue it at Ocean Hills.
Surrounded by shaded decks are an Olympic sized pool and spa, tennis, paddle tennis, bocci and shuffleboard courts.
Enjoy the morning playing tennis! There are 4 regulation courts, some are lighted, and Ocean Hills Country Club also has several pickle ball courts.
The bocci courts were not in use when I took this picture, but I’ve seen a lively crowd here enjoying the day and the good-spirited competition!
The sunroom is a beautiful place in the clubhouse to have a cold drink after all those activities!
Of course, the finest senior community in America’s Finest City also carries the highest price tag. This is an established village of attached homes, built in the late 1980s. Homes range from 971 to 1850 square feet, and are typically priced from the mid $400,000s for the smallest to the high $700,000s for the largest. Homes on the golf course are usually $50,000 to $75,000 more.
This is a typical street in the second phase of Ocean Hills, built around 1990-1992. These homes are larger, and they are detached. However, the largest ones are two story, in order to fit on the lot. Often the second story is just a loft, and the bedrooms and all living areas are on the main floor.
This is the newest neighborhood in Ocean Hills, “Portofino”, built in 1997-1998 by Ryland Homes. Since there is no new construction in any senior community in San Diego, this area is in high demand and often there are no homes for sale in Ocean Hills Country Club in the Portofino section.
The homes range from 1482 to 2150 square feet.

Each row of homes has a greenbelt between it and the next, so every home feels private. Some greenbelts are larger than others depending on the lay of the land, but everyone has some sort of separation.
Thanks to the recent drought, the large turf area are giving way to more waterwise landscaping like this. It’s actually much more interesting and colorful than just grass.
Here’s a typical front yard. The association maintains everything in front of the home. The irrigation system is controlled by the association, so the front yards on a street will always look well maintained. The association maintains all home exteriors and all landscape walls. Entire streets are often painted at the same time in order to provide a uniformly well-kept appearance.
We didn’t forget about Fido! Here’s the dog park where man’s best friend can go off-leash and you can meet other pet owners.
There is no food service at Ocean Hills, but there is this shopping center just down the road where you’ll find a supermarket, bagel and coffee shop, hairdresser, ice cream parlor, and several fast food restaurants. This is the colorful landscaping that you’ll enjoy as you leave the community and drive down the block.
Further down the road, but still nearby, are more formal restaurants, Tri-City Medical Center, and all the “big box” stores, like Costco, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. In other words, just about everything you could want is within a 10 minute drive of Ocean Hills.
Homeowner fees are currently $450-550 per month and include exterior house painting, roof maintenance, basic cable TV, and all amenities. Annual real estate taxes are estimated to be 1 1/4% of the purchase price. Golf is free.
